Raza Hasan is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience across the financial services industry in several geographies (Canada, USA, Americas, Caribbean, Asia and the UK).
Raza has held leadership positions in retail banking, small business, commercial and private banking, mortgages, Insurance and wealth management, with a number of financial services organizations including HSBC Bank Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Merrill Lynch, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board and Deloitte.
At HSBC, Raza was the Lead Chief Risk Officer, Wealth and Personal Banking Americas. Within Canada, HSBC was the seventh largest bank and Raza was responsible for managing end to end risks for the Canadian operations in Wealth management and Personal Banking – investments, mortgages, credit cards, small business and retail loans and deposit products. Prior to this, Raza held various leadership positions with CIBC including Senior Vice President, Risk Management for retail, wealth management and segments of commercial banking businesses. Before this, he was President & CEO of CIBC Mortgages Inc., responsible for CIBC’s mortgage portfolio, including at the time, the largest broker lender in Canada, First Line Mortgages as well as the franchise operations of mortgage brokerage, Mortgage Centre Canada, during which period he also served as the Chair of CIBC Mortgages and Lending Asset & Liability Committee.
Raza has participated with and presented at various industry forums, including as a member of Canadian Bankers Association’s Mortgages Working Group and member of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s (CMHC) Senior Lender Working Committee, and director of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada. In the United States, Raza was also a member of the Board of Directors of American Century Investments, which manages over US$150 billion in assets.
Raza is a member of Financial Services Research Initiative of C.D. Howe Institute and a Board Member of Oakville Hospital Foundation, as well as a member of United Way of Greater Toronto campaign cabinet and involved in mentoring initiatives for new immigrants and youths. For his services to Canada and the community, Raza was a recipient of King Charles III Coronation medal (2025), Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Award (2022), Canada Sesquicentennial Award (2017) and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award (2012). In 2020, Raza was recognized on the Empower 100 Ethnic Minority Executives List (UK, Ireland, Europe, US and Canada) for his work on diversity and inclusion.
Raza holds a CA, CPA (Ontario), Chartered Accountant (England & Wales) and ICD.D designation with the Institute of Corporate Directors and has completed the Advanced Risk Management Program with the Wharton Business School (USA).
